http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/coweta/bios/grahamj.txt - CAPT. J. GRAHAM, one of the leading business men of Senoia, is the grandson of William Graham, of Irish nativity, who was brought to America when a child of two years of age, and reared in North Carolina. He served in the war of 1812, and in 1825 settled in Harris county, Ga. His son David was born in North Carolina and married Miss Pheriba L. Collins, whose parents, James and Priscilla (Baker) Collins, came to Georgia early in the century and cleared up a farm among the forest wilds.

Query: I'm researching James Collins b.abt. 1791 in NC, m.prior to 12-13-1809 Priscilla Baker, daughter of Charles Baker and Priscilla Perry, probably in Warren or Wilkes Co., GA. They were living in Talbot Co., GA from late 1820's to early 1850's when they moved to Chattahoochee Co., GA. The last record I have is there in 1857. Does anyone have records of him or suggestions. His father may have been Charles Collins from VA or Andrew Collins. James and Priscilla had 9 children.
http://genforum.genealogy.com/collins/messages/13047.html (Glennda) I am seeking information on this line of Collins from Mitchell County, Georgia area. Any information would be appreciated.
Bryant Collins b. 1851 GA m. Josephine Sellers b.1855 FL
Andrew Jackson Collins b. 1876/77 Mitchell County, GA m. 11 Oct 1898 Allie Rebecca Shiver b. 1876 GA
Jessie B. Collins b. 1899 Mitchell County, Ga
http://genforum.genealogy.com/collins/messages/13048.html (Roger Collins) There are at least four Collins family lines in Mitchell County.
Your Jesse B. Collins (daughter of Andrew and Allie Collins) would be the granddaughter of Bryant and Josephine Collins, and the great-granddaughter of Alfred Collins (b. 1799 NC), who married Priscilla Moss in 1857 in Pulaski County, GA. Alfred moved his family to Mitchell County between 1860 and 1870.
Alfred (according to some researchers) is a brother to Bryant Collins (b. 1794, Tar River, NC) who moved to Mitchell County by 1860 where he died in 1862.
Your Jesse B. Collins first appears in the 1900 Census of Mitchell County with her parents. Her name is usually transcribed as "Japer Balle" but perhaps that "p" is really an old-style double-s. She is listed as 7 months old, born Oct., 1899.
http://genforum.genealogy.com/collins/messages/13107.html (Delayne Wells) I too am researching the Collins line that I believe is related to these Collins. I believe that Bryant Collins who moved to Mitchell Co., GA about 1852 is a brother to my James Collins who was in Stewart Co., GA in the 1860 census. James was born in NC, married Priscilla Baker, may have been in Wilkes, Wilkinson, and Warren Co's., GA prior to moving to Talbot Co., GA about 1827. I have reason to believe they are the sons of Andrew Collins and Pheraba Ballenger from Johnston Co., NC but no proof. Is this the same line you are working on? If so, do you have any information to share? I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Delayne
http://genforum.genealogy.com/collins/messages/13108.html (Roger
Collins) - There is at least an family anecdotal history in Mitchell County that four brothers Bryant, Alfred, James
and Lewis (supposed to be sons of Andrew Collins and Phereba Ballenger) came from North Carolina into Georgia in the
1820's. I have seen no documentation or proof. The four would be Bryant (b. 1794), Alfred (b. ca. 1800), Lewis, and your
James. They used a lot of the same names (Bryant, Alfred, Lewis, James, Andrew) for their children even though they were
living in different counties in Georgia. Bryant came into Wilkinson County and lived in Twiggs, Coweta and Stewart
counties before settling in Mitchell County. Alfred appears Pulaski County about 1830 through 1860 before settling in
Mitchell County by 1870. The Lewis involved, I believe, is the Lewis Collins (b. ca. 1810, NC) who lived in Sumter
County. I do not have much more information on these four Collins's other than that.
However, I am involved in the Collins Surname DNA Project which could help support or disprove the question of whether
these four families are related. Just recently I have found a descendant of Alfred Collins (b. ca. 1800, NC) who has
volunteered to participate in the project. If you know of a direct male Collins descendant of James Collins who would
volunteer to participate, it would at least confirm whether or not these two families are related. The test simply
requires rubbing a cotton swab between your cheek and gum. The participant must be a male and must be a direct Collins
descendant (still bearing the Collins name). If you know someone who would be willing to volunteer, just contact me at
my e-mail address: rcoll at bellsouth.net Take care, hope to hear from you. Roger Collins.
