There is a definite change from her earlier days. The stigma of psychiatric treatment is less damaging. People know more about it, but it is still an "illness", "disease". Some people are tall, some lean, some weak, some strong. I happen to think faster and in a different way. So do many people. Those people who self-medicate with alcohol and drugs have ruined it for those who just want to live quietly and productively. For many years I lived in terror of being labeled as crazy. While some people had asthma or high blood pressure or diabetes, I have a pretty good body. My moods are labile. There was no one to turn to. No one to ask why my mind works this way. No way to compare internal states and feelings. Now with fMRI and other technologies, it is getting closer to a time when I can show others exactly what I am thinking, what I am feeling, the pain I feel, the moods and sensations that are a complement to the wonderful joyful productive state that is my mainstay.
